A Stroll Down the Boulevard
When the street was opened around 1905, Elizabeth Hammond Bleckley, one of Anderson's most well-known cultural leaders, named it "Boulevard" after the famous boulevard strip atop the wall surrounding the city of Paris, France. The prefix "East" was added because the street marked the eastern boundary of the city. Thus, the original name was "East Boulevard." Anderson's first boulevard has represented education, culture, belief in God, community leadership, and public service for nearly 100 years.
