“Downtown Anderson is unique and beautiful,” said Andrew Stringer, president of Anderson Heritage. “Downtown captures the essence of our mission –the preservation of historical structures, alive and bustling with the sights and sounds of today’s commerce. In 2011, Anderson Heritage Inc. had the distinct privilege of partnering with the Anderson County Museum in the restoration of Ms. Frierson’s Schoolhouse, Foothills Community Foundation and local leaders in bringing the ‘Spirit of the Doughboy’ back home to W.A. Hudgens American Legion Post 14, as well as assisting the City of Anderson and Foothills Community Foundation with the Cemetery Restoration Project, which is currently underway. These projects are just a few examples of what your contributions have helped accomplish.”

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the event. Tickets are available at The Kitchen Emporium, Linda’s Flower Shop, E-City Java and Viva! il Vino.

Anderson Heritage Supports Cemeteries

Anderson Heritage officers and directors met Tuesday, July 27 at the Anderson County Museum. Linda McConnell and Beth Batson presented a program on four city-owned cemeteries to be improved by the City Cemetery Endowment. Acting on behalf of Anderson Heritage members and sponsors, the Board authorized up to $4,000 toward signage at Silver Brook Cemetery.

Other Anderson Heritage projects include HVAC for Miss Frierson's schoolhouse at the Anderson County Museum, Homes for the Holiday Tour of Westside Historic District (December 4) and Anderson Downtown Historic District walking tour brochures.

Girls High School is featured on this year's stained glass ornament/suncatcher, which is now available in limited supply.

For more information, call City Cemetery Endowment (Foothills Community Foundation) at 222-9096.

One Room Schoolhouse Moving to Museum

Anderson Heritage is moving Miss Frierson’s one-room schoolhouse Wednesday, August 12 at 9AM via the Boulevard and Greenville St.  The little schoolhouse will move from the fairgrounds to the Anderson County Museum, where it will become a permanent exhibit open to the public.

Built in 1886 on Whitner at I St. the one-room schoolhouse was given to Anderson Heritage by Professor Henry Von Hasseln.  In 1983-84 it was restored and furnished by Anderson Heritage members and stood on North Main St. until the City moved it to the fairgrounds.

Funds for transportation, renovation and preservation are provided by Anderson Heritage sponsors.  Also, fourth graders at Concord Elementary School collected change in birdhouse replicas toward continuous preservation.
